Types of gynaecology scans

Pelvic ultrasound

  • Transabdominal scan over the lower abdomen
  • Useful for assessing uterus and ovaries
  • Often combined with an internal scan for more detail

Transvaginal (internal) ultrasound

  • High‑resolution views of uterus and ovaries
  • Helpful for endometrial thickness and cavity assessment
  • Detailed evaluation of fibroids, cysts and polyps

When an ultrasound can help
